It was as if it was the main character's diary. The style was kinda narrative although it was not. The *I* is not used but the way it is written, it really looks like it is the character who is speaking all along. Then, my second reaction was OMG, who is this guy? Is he real? If he is, I hope to do not meet him ever in real life! Then I got hooked. plain and simple. Laurent is a smart charismatic bisexual guy, knows how to use his handsomeness, extremely ambitious, selfish and has huge commitment issues. So he uses people and does not care if he hurts or not as long as his pleasures and ambitions are satisfied. He does not lie, promise anything but rather flee as a coward. His focus is himself and he remains with his lovers if they do not have or show any feelings and remain at his entire disposal for sex. Wow. Not the type of character that we can really fall in love with n'est-ce-pas? But you are wrong. dead wrong.
